Morgan Mitchell of Lafayette had never played Powerball® before, but a recent large jackpot caught her interest. She had heard her coworkers at the dental office she works at discuss the growing jackpot and had seen several news stories about it and decided to purchase tickets for that evening’s drawing.

After dinner that night, Morgan drove over to the Village Pantry near her neighborhood and bought two Powerball tickets. When she woke up the next morning, Morgan grabbed her phone to check her numbers and was excited to see that she had matched four out of the five white balls and the Powerball®. She knew she had won something but had to do an Internet search to find out how much she won. Seeing that she won $50,000, Morgan’s excitement quickly turned to shock.

Later that morning, as she was pulling into her local coffee shop’s parking lot, she saw her husband pulling out of that same parking lot. She lowered her window and shouted that she had just won $50,000. Her husband exclaimed, “No way!” and then added, “Don’t tell anyone!”

Morgan then called all her family members and friends to share the news about her win and told her coworkers about it as soon as she arrived at work. “I couldn’t help it,” she laughed.

Morgan and her husband are tournament bass fishermen, so Morgan plans to put her winnings toward a new bass boat.
